Which type of tile is best for bathrooms?

The best bathroom tile will depend on your space, style and how the room will be used every day. Porcelain and ceramic tiles are perfect for bathrooms because they are durable, practical and easy to clean. For bathroom floor tiles, shower areas and wet rooms always choose a tile with a suitable anti-slip finish, to prevent slipping when wet.

What are the best tiles for a shower?

Porcelain tiles are especially popular for shower walls and floors, as they are hard-wearing and available in a wide range of finishes, including marble effect, stone effect, concrete effect and neutral designs. For shower floors or wet rooms, choose a anti-slip bathroom floor tiles, essential for shower areas. Large format tiles are a great option for shower walls because they create fewer grout lines, making the space feel cleaner and more seamless. Subway tiles can also work well on shower wall or in shower niches, adding a pop of colour or a stylish feature detail.

What bathroom tiles are easiest to clean/maintain?

The easiest bathroom tiles to clean and maintain are large format smooth porcelain or ceramic tiles with a glazed or low-texture finish. These tiles are durable, water-resistant and simple to wipe down, making them ideal for bathroom walls. Large format bathroom tiles have fewer grout lines, which means less cleaning over time. For the easiest finish, choose simple matt or satin tiles in neutral tones and match your grout colour closely to the tile to help hide everyday marks.

Highly textured tiles, very small mosaics and dark grout-heavy designs may need more regular cleaning, especially in showers and wet areas. Clean bathroom tiles with warm water, a soft cloth or mop, and a mild pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, acidic cleaners and abrasive pads, as these can damage certain tile finishes and grout over time.

How do I make a small bathroom look bigger with tiles?

For smaller bathrooms, large format tiles, bright neutral colours and grout that closely matches the tile colour can help the space feel larger. Choosing the same or similar tiles for both the walls and floor creates a more seamless look, reduces visual breaks and helps the room feel larger and less cluttered. Glass shower panels and walk-in showers can also help create a more open, spacious feel.

Should bathroom tiles be matt or shiny(polished)?

Bathroom tiles can be matt or polished (shiny), depending on where they are being used and the look you want to create. Matt tiles are a popular choice for bathroom floors because they offer a softer, more natural finish and can provide better grip than polished tiles.

Polished tiles work well on bathroom walls, especially in smaller bathrooms, as they reflect light and can help the room feel brighter and more spacious. For a balanced look, many people choose matt floor tiles with gloss or satin wall tiles. In shower areas and wet rooms, always choose tiles with a suitable finish for the space, especially underfoot.
